LI Ruizhe

Male, native of Changji City, Xinjiang.

Title: Professor, Doctoral Supervisor (Archaeology) at the Art School of Northwest University

Education:

· 1997: B.A. in Archaeology, School of Cultural Heritage and Museology (now School of Cultural Heritage) of Northwest University

· 2004: M.A. in Archaeology, School of Cultural Heritage and Museology of Northwest University

· 2007: Ph.D. in Archaeology, History & Culture School of Sichuan University

Employment History:

2007–2009: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Postdoctoral Program of the Institute of Dunhuang Studies of Lanzhou University

2014–2015: Visiting Scholar, SOAS University of London

Current Positions:

· Council Member, Society of Chinese Commercial History

· Member, Institute of Dunhuang and Turfan Studies of China

· Review Expert, Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism

· Adjunct Researcher, Xinjiang Kucha Academy

Research Achievements:

Published over 50 academic papers in journals such as Journal of the Dunhuang and Turfan Studies, Studies in World Religions, Dunhuang Research, Journal of Dunhuang Studies, and The Western Regions Studies

Led an individual project on rare and obscure studies funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, and presided over the completion of more than 20 projects, including two projects founded by the National Social Science Fund of China, as well as projects funded by the Social Science Funds of the Ministry of Education, Shaanxi Province, Xi’an Municipality, and other funding bodies

Authored three academic monographs, including Research on the Activities and Influence of Hu Merchants along the Ancient Silk Road, Kucha Cave Temples, and Studies in Buddhist Art of the Kucha Caves

Awards and Honors

· Third Prize, Xi’an Municipal Achievement Award in Social Science in both 2013 (Eighth Session) and 2016 (Ninth Session)

· Third Prize (2013) and Second Prize (2019), Outstanding Achievement Award for Humanities and Social Sciences Research in Shaanxi Higher Education Institutions

· Northwest University Outstanding Teacher in 2013 and 2023

· Outstanding Individual in Teacher Ethics and Professional Conduct of Northwest University in 2021

· Outstanding Master’s Thesis Supervisor of Northwest University in 2016, 2020, 2022, and 2024

Research Interests:

His primary focus lies in the teaching and research of Art Archaeology, with research interests encompassing Archaeology of Cultural Exchange along the Silk Road, Art and Archaeology of the Western Regions, Iconography, and Han-Tang Archaeology.
